It is deeply unfortunate and heartbreaking that a Bishop of the Church of Nigeria is reportedly involved in actions that encourage the Church of Nigeria to be sued in a civil court. This is not only troubling, it raises serious moral and ecclesiastical concerns.
It is painful to observe that Bishop Adebogun appears to be playing hide-and-seek while supporting the idea of taking the Church of Nigeria to secular courts. This is not the Anglican way. This is not how disputes within the Body of Christ should be handled.
Our questions are clear and direct:
Primate of the Church of Nigeria and the House of Bishops, why is Adebogun still parading himself as a Bishop of the Church of Nigeria?
Is there no discipline in the Church?
Is there no mechanism to call him to order?
Why is he allowed to continue deceiving Anglicans and creating confusion and chaos in America under the name of the Church of Nigeria?
The Holy Scripture is very clear: “Obedience is better than sacrifice.” Christian leadership is first and foremost about obedience obedience to God, obedience to the Church, and obedience to constituted authority. Leaders must lead by example. We cannot continue to live in disobedience and still parade ourselves as Christians, especially as Christian leaders.
It is therefore incumbent on Bishop Olu Kayode and others involved in this matter to show respect for the leadership of the Church of Nigeria. The Primate’s office is the highest clerical authority in the Church of Nigeria and must be treated with dignity and honor. Anything short of this is a direct affront to the Church and its mission.
This ongoing shenanigan this open disrespect for authority and mission is unacceptable. It undermines the credibility of the Church, confuses the faithful, and damages the witness of Anglicanism in the diaspora.
We say it clearly and without apology: this is not acceptable, and it cannot continue.
The Church of Nigeria must act. Discipline must be restored. Order must be upheld. And obedience must once again be the standard for those who claim to lead God’s people.
